SVI Radio Interview: Tim Haberberger, Greys River Road update
Tim Haberberger with the Box Y Lodge called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Thursday, December 18 with a report on current conditions on Greys River Road. Haberberger said the road is currently straight ice and is very dangerous to travel on.

(0:00) Not on the south slopes, they’re all barren off. (0:04) But the reason I wanted to get on the radio this morning is the trail is treacherous. (0:09) The first seven miles out of Alpine is a solid sheet of ice.
(0:15) It’s very hard to maneuver on it with anything. (0:19) A snowmobile, we tried a side-by-side, that was even more dangerous. (0:24) We’re just trying to get some supplies hauled in.
(0:26) As we’re scheduled to open tomorrow, which we will open, (0:30) but nobody needs to come up that trail right now. (0:33) If we get a couple inches of snow on top of this ice, it’s going to be really bad (0:38) because people won’t know it’s under that snow. (0:41) I’ve never seen it this bad before.
(0:44) And from the first seven miles, it’s one sheet of ice. (0:48) Then from the Little Greys all the way to us, (0:52) you can get off the side and get some snow for lube on your snowmobile, but barely, barely. (0:58) I came in last night, seven trees across the road.
(1:02) We got all those cleared last night. (1:05) But there’s no grooming going on yet on this end. (1:10) It’s very treacherous, and I just want the people to know that.
(1:14) Like I said, we will open tomorrow, but nobody needs to get on that trail (1:17) until we get some substantial snow. (1:20) It’s scary, icy. (1:24) If you do have to go up that road, stay toward the mountainside, not toward the riverside.
(1:28) You can end up in the river. (1:30) Your snowmobile will go where it feels like going. (1:33) You don’t have no control.
(1:34) Yeah, and there’s nothing that can really be done until you mentioned (1:37) until we get some significant snowfall, right? (1:40) I mean, it’s not like you can just go salt the whole Greys River Road. (1:43) So we’re just kind of just waiting for snow right now? (1:46) That’s right. We’re waiting for snow, and it’ll come.
(1:48) It always does, like everybody around here always says. (1:51) I’ve missed some summers, but never did miss a winter. (1:54) They always show up.
(1:55) It’s just late this year, so I just don’t want nobody coming up on that trail (2:00) and getting hurt. (2:01) Try to go somewhere where it isn’t packed down and ride your snowmobile a little bit. (2:06) It’ll come sooner or later, but that trail is treacherous right now.
(2:11) Jim, appreciate the report. Thank you very much. Keep us posted.
