Children from 11 local families were joined by law enforcement officers and community volunteers during a Shop With a Cop event this holiday season, an effort focused on serving families in need while strengthening relationships between youth and public safety officials.
A total of 12 volunteers from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Afton Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Wyoming Game & Fish participated.
After shopping at Bomgaars, leaders and students from local 4-H and FFA clubs volunteered their time and wrapping supplies to wrap presents purchased during the event.
Money used to purchase items was donated by the Lincoln County Peace Officer Foundation, Wyoming Highway Patrol Association, and private donors.
In anticipation for the event, Broulims prepared and donated holiday meal kits for participating families.
The main highlight for Maryanne Christensen, Communications Supervisor for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, was “Seeing the smiles.”
Shop With a Cop events like this one aim to build positive connections between young people and law enforcement during the holiday season. Across Wyoming and neighboring regions, similar programs pair officers with children for community shopping experiences, giving kids the opportunity to select meaningful gifts and interact with public safety officers in a friendly setting.
Shop With a Cop has provided a blend of charitable giving and strengthens community relationships around the Christmas season.
