SVI Radio Interview: David Walters, Alpine Fire Recruitment Day

David Walters with the Alpine Fire Department stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Wednesday, August 20 to promote the Alpine Fire Recruitment Day happening this Saturday.

(0:00) It’s weather and hot plates of biscuits and gravy Duke Dell and Dan on the SVI radio network (0:08) 748 this morning on SVI radio joining me live in studio this morning is David Walters (0:14) Dave is with the Alpine Fire Department (0:16) Well, he’s with a lot of things (0:18) But today he’s representing the Alpine Fire Department and their big fire recruitment day is up and coming this Saturday morning in Alpine (0:25) Dave good morning. How are you today? Good morning. Thank you for having me.
Absolutely (0:28) Well, let’s talk about the fire recruitment day (0:32) And in fact you and I were just talking about this before you came on the air (0:35) It’s been a really busy summer for all the volunteers and in the Lincoln County and the Alpine Fire Department. No exception (0:42) I’m sure you guys would welcome maybe a little extra help and some many hands on deck as you can get (0:47) Oh, yeah, we’ve been a busy summer. We’ve had quite a few incidents, you know a few brush fires (0:53) some house calls and then of course, you know our (0:56) Car accidents, so we we’ve been busy and this is something really important for us (1:02) And we really felt like it was important for us to reach out to the community on this event (1:07) We have our recruitment day this Saturday at the Alpine Fire Station in Alpine (1:12) From 9 a.m. To 12 p.m (1:14) It’s from 90.
I’m sorry. It’s (1:16) from 9 a.m. To 12 p.m. Free doughnuts and coffee (1:20) But the most important thing is that I think everybody in this community wants to help out some way (1:26) no matter if you’re helping out at the food bank or if you’re in the senior center or maybe something that you’re involved in a (1:33) church, but we really need volunteers at the Alpine Fire Department to (1:39) Help the community and help yourselves and without volunteers, you know, there’s just nobody gonna be out there to (1:46) Do do this stuff, you know to come come assist in an emergency situation (1:50) So we really depend on the community to get involved to be a volunteer (1:55) You can do as much or as little with the fire department as you want. So this day is just about answering questions (2:02) Playing with some of our equipment spraying some hoses checking out our lat new ladder truck (2:08) I think you can you know, really enjoy the time bring your kids and just check it all out (2:14) Other than that, you know, we just want to (2:17) make sure everybody’s safe this season and take the opportunity to talk about the fire restrictions that started yesterday and (2:24) That we can’t do any burning anymore right now (2:27) Yeah, absolutely, and that’s pretty much everywhere for service BLM County land.
I mean everybody’s enacted those instructions. So good reminder (2:34) Dave Walters in studio this morning Alpine Fire Department and their recruitment day this Saturday at the Alpine Firehouse 9 a.m (2:42) To noon to show up any time during that window day. Absolutely.
Yep, and be there and (2:48) Why are you part of the Alpine Fire Department if someone’s out there thinking? Why should I I mean, why are you what? (2:55) What’s your motivation? (2:56) Well, I started almost six years ago with the Alpine Fire Department (2:59) And I just really felt like I wanted to give back to the community in some way (3:02) You know with I’ve lived here 20 years had my business here in the valley and really felt like you know (3:08) I wanted to give back to the community (3:10) So I feel like it’s a very rewarding position there (3:14) There’s a so much good feelings when you go out and maybe save a life or assist in some emergency situation and you go home (3:22) You know feeling like you’re really done something good. So I really enjoy that Dave Walters Alpine Fire (3:29) recruitment day this Saturday 9 to noon and (3:33) Just come on and check it out. See what it’s all about, right? Yep.
Thank you everybody and have a safe rest of your summer (3:39) That’s Dave Walters this morning on the weekday. Wake up. It’s all part of the SBI Radio Network
