(0:00) Duke and Dow with you in studio joining us live over the phone this morning is (0:04) Tanner Johnson. Tanner to tell us about the upcoming 11th annual Andy Johnson (0:10) Memorial Golf Tournament happening next Saturday July 26. Tanner good morning (0:15) how are you today? Doing well Duke and Dow how you guys doing this morning? (0:19) We’re doing great thank you for taking a couple minutes out of your morning and (0:23) and joining us the the 11th annual.

I know we were kind of making a big deal (0:29) about how it’s already been 10 years now we’re in the 11th year 11. Talk to us (0:33) about the Andy Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament and how it’s how it’s grown. (0:38) Yeah absolutely you know we appreciate you guys for helping us get the word out.

(0:42) It’s like you guys said it’s next Saturday. We start registration at 8 a.m. (0:48) We’re gonna be playing up at the Star Valley Ranch RV course so start at 8 a.m. (0:54) and then shotgun start at 9 and lunch and prizes will be provided so get your (0:59) guys’s team signed up as quick as you can so we’ve got a few spots still left. (1:04) So still need a few teams and of course all a great cause in a memory of (1:09) Andy and the money raised goes to some to help out some some really great people (1:15) as well.

Tell us what you guys use the proceeds for. Yeah so we’ve been super (1:20) lucky with this and obviously we know none of this is possible without the (1:23) love and support of you know everyone in the valley that come and play you (1:29) know we’ve got lots of guys that come every single year and support our cause (1:33) so we’ve actually like I said been very lucky and we hopefully we’ve made a (1:38) difference over the years you know like you guys said this is the 11th annual (1:41) you know and so just to throw out a few numbers and like I said we don’t take (1:45) credit for any of this this is all on the love and support of our our great (1:50) you know place that we’re from in Star Valley but we’ve been able to raise you (1:55) know up over we’ve donated to families has been around you know around the (1:59) $45,000 mark over the 11 years and we’ve been able to donate roughly around (2:05) $22,000 in scholarships as well so I mean that’s a huge number and like I (2:11) said it’s it’s been awesome to be part of it and to you know to be able to give (2:17) back to the community and like I said this wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t (2:21) for the generous you know people of Star Valley so you know Tanner when you when (2:27) you talk about that you know you want kind of a legacy obviously enough for the (2:31) tournament for your brother Andy though and when you think kind of kind of give (2:36) us an up you know an idea of what it’s like out there on the course because (2:41) obviously you know you’re you’re having fun with with your team and stuff but (2:44) I’m sure a lot of Andy stories come up as well kind of talk to us about about (2:49) what it’s like being out there on this particular day every year yeah no (2:54) absolutely it’s a great time you know a lot of a lot of the guys that do do this (2:59) year in year out we’re good buddies of Andy’s so we we really cherish the (3:03) moments out there and like the time we get to spend together reminiscing you (3:08) know like you said bringing up old stories about high school football you (3:11) know whatever the case may be and all the shenanigans that Andy got into and (3:16) with all of his buddies and it’s just really fun to rub shoulders and share (3:20) those experiences and just have a nice relaxing time out on the you know course (3:25) enjoying God’s creations you know so we live in such a beautiful place that no (3:29) matter what course we play it’s awesome and it’s it’s a great experience to be (3:33) out there together and sharing you know those memories that we have of of Andy (3:39) you know and it’s not it’s not just as the shenanigans he got in when he played (3:43) football the the shenanigans didn’t stop after that right of course and and then (3:47) and then his time as a coach as well I think some of the most impactful moments (3:52) that Andy had were late in his life on on the field wearing the coaches hat and (3:58) and really made some impacts there absolutely and I think honestly Duke (4:03) that was probably you know one of the highlights of his entire life you know (4:09) after getting diagnosed in 2014 with his cancer to be able to to still join the (4:15) coaching staff under coach how and coach young and continue that legacy and to (4:21) help those young men and you know just be it just be an influence for him and I (4:25) think he took a lot of pride in that and like I said I truly believe that that was (4:32) one of the main highlights of his entire life was being able to be around (4:35) those boys and and coach those boys up you know before he passed in 2017 so (4:41) Tanner what’s what’s next for this golf tournament and and and what are some (4:47) goals that you might have for the future that’s a great question though we’re you (4:52) know hoping to continue as long as we can keep this thing rolling and have the (4:56) participation that we have because obviously like you know everyone has (5:03) things come up in their lives and we we’ve been super blessed to be able to (5:06) kind of you know help out where we can you know we don’t have all the dollars (5:11) to help everyone like we wish we could but the goal is to keep it going to keep (5:16) earning some money you know so that we can help people in need and then also (5:20) help these student-athletes that Star Valley High School you know continue (5:23) their education and on to the next level but truly our goal is to figure (5:29) out ways that we can you know earn some more money in different ways other than (5:34) the tournament so as a as a foundation so we created the Andy Johnson Memorial (5:39) Foundation a few years back we’re a 501 c3 we are looking for you know other (5:45) ways to earn and to you know basically just round up funds so that we can be a (5:52) bigger impact in the valley so that’s that’s the goal we’re trying to figure (5:56) that out and kind of look at different areas of of where we can try to make (5:59) that happen. Speaking with Tanner Johnson this (6:02) morning on First Bank of Wyoming Sports Friday the 11th annual Andy Johnson (6:05) Memorial Foundation golf tournament next Saturday July 26th it’s going to be at (6:09) the Star Valley Ranch RV Resort golf course on Muddy String Road you (6:12) mentioned Tanner you’re still looking for a few teams how can people get (6:15) involved either as a participant or maybe they just want to make a donation how do (6:20) people get involved in this? Yeah absolutely so we posted some flyers over (6:25) the all around the valley as well as on our Instagram so if you can find us on (6:30) Instagram at AJMF media so Andy Johnson Memorial Foundation media on (6:36) Instagram we have our flyer posted there I’ve also got it on my personal (6:41) Instagram as well but there’s a QR code on our flyer that you can scan and you (6:46) can you know you can donate to the cause you can register your team there (6:52) and if you’re single and you don’t have a team put together reach out to me and (7:00) I can we can arrange to try to get you on a team so as we always have a few guys (7:04) that you know can’t put a team together on their own but we can we can mix and (7:09) match and get make that happen so if you’re wanting to play let us know my (7:14) number is you know 307-248-3143 reach out to me directly and we can make (7:20) everything happen so what if you’re not very good at golf you know that’s that’s (7:26) the great thing about a four-man scramble you don’t have to be so and we (7:30) have some teams it’s funny because we have teams from all ranges we have you (7:34) know guys that are there looking to win it every year and we have guys that are (7:38) just you know having a great time and then we have some you know beginners and (7:43) now our kids are getting a little older and participating in it as well so so we (7:47) have a varying you know degree of talent so just show up and and and play (7:54) and have a good time that’s that’s our biggest thing is we just you know want (7:58) to come together and rub shoulders and have a great time so we don’t take (8:02) things too serious there.

Love it again the Memorial Golf Tournament next (8:07) Saturday July 26th you can find those registration details on the AJMF (8:12) media social media pages we’ll also post that link on our website as well (8:17) when we post this interview Tanner Johnson this morning on First Bank of (8:21) Wyoming Sports Friday Tanner as always appreciate your time what a great cause (8:24) what a great tournament encourage everyone to get involved if there’s (8:26) maybe just one thing you’d like people to remember about Andy what would it be? (8:34) Oh you guys are gonna make me cry just his heart you know he he had a big heart (8:42) for everyone and he always tried to be there for everyone and and I think that (8:47) showed in his coaching and his love for the game of football and his love for the (8:52) kids that he was able to to reach out to and that was that was just who he was he (8:56) wore his heart on his sleeve and and you know took a lot of pride in that so I (9:04) think that’s that’s the main thing and once again thank you guys for having us (9:08) on and helping us get this out there and contributing to our great cause and (9:12) supporting what we do so we appreciate like I said none of it would be possible (9:17) without our great community in Star Valley and their love and support and (9:21) donations so thank you guys and thanks thanks to the community for sure (9:26) Tanner Johnson and First Bank of Wyoming Sports Friday the 11th annual Andy (9:31) Johnson Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament next Saturday July 26 Tanner (9:35) thank you so much we appreciate your time thank you guys appreciate it it’s (9:39) all part of First Bank of Wyoming Sports Friday on the SVI radio network
