Braves roll past Wolves 47-7; host Buffalo on Halloween in 3A quarterfinals

The Star Valley Braves put together an extremely efficient outing on Friday night as they rolled through the Green River Wolves 47-7 for the program’s 30th straight victory. The win also wrapped up their second straight undefeated regular season (9-0) as the Braves will now host the Buffalo Bison on Friday October 31 at 3 p.m. in the Wyoming 3A quarterfinals.
Phoenixx Hovey had just three incomplete passes as he went 12 of 15 at the quarterback position, compiling 201 yards and four touchdowns in the first half to four different receivers. Sam Gaskell, Nathan Haderlie, Dax Button and Preston Ross were all on the receiving end of the scores as Hovey threw for at least four touchdowns for the third time this season.
In the middle of the aerial attack, Roman Erickson intercepted Green River’s Maddux Hintz on the Wolves’ second possession of the game, taking it back more than 20 yards for the defensive touchdown.
In the second half, the running game took over as 11 different ball carriers combined for 28 carries and a total of 294 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Seniors Ikaika Cope and Caleb Erickson each found the end zone, including a 67-yard scamper for Erickson. Cope led the team with a total of 96 total yards.
Defensively, the Braves held the Wolves to just 36 yards on 22 carries as they sacked Hintz multiple times. Irie Kuball led the Green River offense with five catches for 90 yards.
