Just one day after Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) announced she would not seek a second term, Wyoming Congresswoman Harriet Hageman announced her bid to fill the state’s junior senator position via a video titled “What We Fight For.”

Hageman, Wyoming’s lone representative in the U.S House, was elected in 2022 where she ousted Liz Cheney from the position and began her first term in 2023. She was recently re-elected this past November by a large margin with approximately 74% of the votes.

The news comes on the heels of the Lummis announcement where the 71-year old public servant cited the toll of the position.

“Deciding not to run for re-election does represent a change of heart for me, but in the difficult, exhausting session weeks this fall, I’ve come to accept that I do not have six more years in me. I am a devout legislator, but I feel like a sprinter in a marathon. The energy required doesn’t match up,”  Lummis said.

The domino effect among Wyoming politics is likely to continue with Governor Mark Gordon’s second term coming to an end in January of 2027.
