The Town of Afton is accepting nominations for inductees to the 2026 Afton Heritage Hall of Fame. Nomination paperwork is available to be picked up from the Town Hall and must be returned to the office there by the end of the day on Thursday, January 15.

Since 2008, Afton has annually selected two residents who, during their lifetime, made notable contributions in the community. Descendants are invited to nominate their ancestors, honoring them with biographical information and documentation of the value of their work in the community.

According to Larnell Cleverley, who serves as Chairman of the Heritage Board with the Town of Afton, a committee of five board members reviews nominations and selects, by secret ballot, the two strongest candidates among the nominations for the year.

Inductees are announced in the Star Valley Independent and honored with a program as part of the Town’s Independence Day celebrations each summer.

“If they want to, family members can honor their relatives during the rodeo” that takes place on the 4th of July.

“Look at your ancestors and see if there is someone that you feel has helped out the town of Afton,” said Cleverley. “We have had some really outstanding people nominated over the years who have really done some valuable things for the Town of Afton. If you go to the Civic Center, you can see all the people whose pictures are hanging on the wall.”

All nominations are welcome, including individuals who been nominated in the past, as long as they have not already been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
