Osmond Elementary School has purchased ski helmets for every student in the school, allowing each student to fully participate in the school ski program that is part of the school’s annual extra-curricular offerings.
Administrators have been hoping and working for several years to be able to provide ski helmets that OES skiers can enjoy “for years to come,” said OES Principal Tyler Jack in an email to SVI Media. “Thanks to overwhelming community support during this year’s fundraiser, along with additional grant funding, this long-standing goal has finally been achieved.”
Each year, students participate in a fall fundraiser with proceeds specifically earmarked for January trips to various ski destinations throughout the region. This year, students sold Texas Roadhouse Rolls. “They sold so many rolls that many students were able to pay for both of their ski trips with some surplus,” said Jack. “The surplus funds were enough to cover the difference for the ski helmets, and the rest of the funds were paid for through a Title IV Safe and Healthy Schools grant.”
Jack explained that the staff at OES consider the ski program “one of the most important opportunities we provide at Osmond Elementary, as it helps students build perseverance, confidence, and resilience.”
Jack noted that the fundraiser was so successful that Texas Roadhouse had to rent an additional off-site freezer to store all the rolls sold by OES students. “The level of support this year was truly remarkable! It was incredible to see how much effort [the students] put into the fundraiser! We are deeply grateful to our families, community members, and all stakeholders who contributed to making this important safety improvement possible for our students.”
