The beginning of 4A West conference play starts this weekend and for Star Valley they will open that portion of the schedule on the home court.
“We’re just excited to get conference play started,” said head coach Matt Shumway. “It’s good to get back to in-state competition. We got some good things out of our pre-season schedule and we’ve had a good week of practice and we’re ready to go up against to good teams coming in.”
The Braves did not have a game this weekend as they prepped for conference play next weekend. They will host the Natrona County Mustangs at 7:30 p.m on Friday with the Kelly Walsh game scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
On paper, the Mustangs come into the weekend at (4-4) overall while the Trojans are sitting at (1-7).
Star Valley (3-5), has lost four in a row as they look to make their case for the conference push. While all three teams may not look as good as they could on paper with their records, they all appear to be ready to pounce on the beginning of conference play.
“Like us, they’ve taken some non-conference losses,” Shumway said of the two schools. “But they are very capable of being there at the end. Natrona will be a very aggressive man to man with some full court man as well. A wide open offense. Kelly Walsh will be a 2-3 zone the whole game. They are aggressive but a little slower pace. They can also put up points in a hurry. They have five or six kids back and both teams are fairly experienced.”
