The Star Valley Braves hosted both the Jackson Broncs and the Green River Wolves on Tuesday night as part of Senior Night and a triangular event. Most of the matches with the Broncs were considered an exhibition in an afternoon start. Star Valley fell to the Wolves in a dual to close out the evening 48-24.

The Braves will be in Cheyenne this weekend for the 4A Duals Tournament, something new to the schedule. SVI Media will have coverage from the event.

Below the bout sheets from Tuesday is a recap of Star Valley’s efforts at the Ron Thon Memorial in Riverton last weekend as well as a photo gallery of Tuesday night. To purchase high resolution images from the gallery, CLICK HERE.

Parry claims Ron Thon title

The Star Valley Braves competed at the Ron Thon Memorial this past weekend where they saw more than 40 teams from all different classes. The Braves finished sixth overall with a total of 122 team points, led by Tel Parry’s victory in the 144-pound weight class and picking up a Ron Thon title belt.

“Its a tough tournament,” replied head coach Eddie Clark. “We wrestled pretty well. Tel won it and got that feather in his cap. It was exciting to see Tel win that. Its on a lot of kids’ goal sheet. We are super excited to see him do that.”

Other placers in the tournament for the Braves included Cooper Sessions, Kimball Parry and Cael Hoopes.

It’s a busy week for the wrestlers as they will now travel to Cheyenne for an event that organizers hope will be the first year of something long-lasting, a 4A dual tournament.

This is something that the coaches in the state have thrown together,” Clark added. “A lot of states are having a state dual team tournament. It’s a cool event. The 4A coaches wanted to do that. We won’t dual everybody. They will seed it and have a bracket. It’s new so we are kind of just getting it off the ground. I expect we will dual four or five teams in those two days.”

Coming a week after the Ron Thon, most teams, including Star Valley will have some gaps in their lineup due to injury.

“We have a few injuries that will probably make us sit a few kids this week,” Clark said. “We’ll go take the ones we have. We’ll be without a few but so will most of the teams. I’m just excited to have some fun this week. We’re getting close to the end so it’s time to go compete.”
