It probably only takes a couple seconds of talking to a friend or neighbor this February before the weather comes up. Or rather the lack of it. Sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 30’s and even the mid 40’s in a time frame when Star Valley residents are traditionally worried about frozen pipes is hard to ignore as the days pass by.
A lack of snow on the valley floor is having an affect on winter related events as well including the Afton Hill Climb which has been postponed to March 27-29 according to the latest information from the Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association (RMSHA).
“RMSHA is fired up to announced the new dates for one of the most anticipated events of the season, the Afton Simplot Hillclimb Challenge is happening March 27-29,” stated a post from the organization on February 10.
Up until this week, the event was in doubt as the circuit looks to adjust to the unseasonably warm winter.
It was also noted that Tamarac has moved their date due to low snow conditions on as well. It has been rescheduled for April 3-4.
The Afton Hill Climb is generally one of the biggest events of the winter, drawing riders from the Intermountain region, many of which bring multiple sleds to compete in various categories. The local event is also often described as the most challenging and enjoyable courses on the circuit which wraps their season in Jackson Hole. The world championships are still scheduled to take place March 19-22.
