Wyoming Classical Academy – Alpine hosts meet and greet with Headmaster Oliver

Families throughout Star Valley are invited to meet Dr. Alex Oliver, who has been hired by the Alpine Education Foundation as the Headmaster of the Wyoming Classical Academy-Alpine (WCA), at a Meet and Greet event on Monday, February 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the Alpine Library Community Room.
“He is going to be pivotal to momentum on enrollment,” said Meredith Leonard, who serves as Chairman of the Board with the Alpine Education Foundation. “With Dr. Oliver coming on board, he will focus on getting the school open and we can turn our attention to developing after school programs and summer camps and athletics and all of the things that really button up that amazing education for students.”
The WCA Alpine offers an entirely public education that is fully funded by the state. Because there is no tuition for students, success of the school depends entirely on enrollment. “That’s one thing that we are really relying on Dr. Oliver to do when he arrives is a big enrollment push.”
WCA was only a dream a year ago. “All we had was the vision of a classical school in Alpine. Since then, remarkable people have stepped up, and it’s taken fortitude and perseverance, but we are speechless in terms of what has been accomplished in a year. We want people to come and see what we are doing, see what it will mean for our families and our community.”

The WCA curriculum offers a “back to basics education” that will contain a low-tech approach and include courses such as Cursive and Latin. Students will be expected to wear uniforms, “which we love because it’s such a great equalizer and it allows the focus to be on education and learning.” The Foundation is determined to “focus on creating scholars that have a desire for lifelong learning. We are not just working on making children workforce ready. We are making sure that they are world ready.” Leonard and the board hope to send a “particularly great message to young girls that want to be homemakers. Even if you are not planning to enter the workforce, you are still worthy of an amazing education. I think it really creates well-rounded citizens with an emphasis on civic responsibility and giving back and it’s really about creating the whole individual.”
