The Star Valley Lady Braves have put together another impressive season and are the favorites to add yet another team title to their accolades after winning the West Regionals in Powell by more than 50 points over the weekend. Star Valley compiled 208 team points as Pinedale placed second with at total of 156.
“Our girls had a phenomenal performance this weekend winning the West region,” replied head coach Jeff Anderson. “They showcased a blend of veteran dominance and rising young talent that has them poised for a massive showing at the Ford Wyoming Center. Your Lady Braves wrestled aggressively through each position and followed the strategies we’ve been working on all season. All of our seniors who wrestled made their way to the second day to qualify for state so we celebrate them for the time they have put into the program, the great wrestlers they are and more importantly the strong women they have become.”
A total of 15 wrestlers qualified for the Wyoming State Championships, which for girls, is a single classification as the fourth year of sanctioned competition comes to a close.
Remington Aullman and Cara Andrews, both seniors, won the 135 and 145 pound brackets respectively to lead the team. Carlee Angell (105) and Brooke Schwab (170) both made the finals and finished second. Overall, the team had 13 placers from the regional tournament.
“There are so many standout performances to mention from regionals,” Anderson continued. “At 135, Remi Aullman completely dominated the competition, pinning her way through the entire bracket. It took her only five minutes and 13 seconds to finish five matches. Cara Andrews mirrored that dominance, securing pins in every match, including a first-period fall in the championship match. Carlee Angell got to even a record with a familiar opponent in a gritty semifinals match where she scored an escape with one second on the clock to tie the score then scored the takedown in overtime to win. Brooke Schwab scored 20 team points with a strong run to the finals. She faced the two-time defending state champ who she hopes to face again this coming weekend.”
Anderson noted all the points and team-wide efforts leading to the program’s success.
“Without everyone’s contribution; the podium placers, second day qualifiers, and teammates who didn’t quite make the second day, we couldn’t have won the team title in such dominating fashion,” he said.
While the Lady Braves will have a target on their backs this weekend by the entire slate of other girl’s programs in the state, Anderson is confident they will show through.
“The team we take is hungry and poised to peak this weekend,” he said. “My goal all season was to put them in the best spot they could be and outperform where others projected. I expect multiple state champions and podium finishes again this weekend. These girls lead the way.”
“I am proud of the depth we have on this team. Not just in the podium finishers but in those who came so close but just missed out. We have a lot of girls up and coming and I look forward to seeing them succeed next year.
“As we head to state I want the families and community to know that the girls and coaches really appreciate your support. The girls are truly a great group and have worked so hard to earn their spots. They will make you proud.”
• Returning Champs and All-Staters
Both Remington Aullman and Cara Andrews have won a state championship and will be looking to close out their senior season with another. Aullman won last year as a junior in overtime and was a finalist as a sophomore where she finished second, giving her a chance at a third all-state nod as well. For Andrews, she won as a sophomore in 2024 but made the finals in both her freshman and junior seasons as well, giving her the chance to be Lady Braves’ first ever four-time all-state wrestler.
