The Tabernacle Choir’s ‘Music and the Spoken Word’ Expands Reach to Millions Across Africa

• Broadcast now extends to more than 17 countries
The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will present a special broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word” on Sunday, April 19, 2026, marking a significant expansion of the weekly broadcast’s reach across Africa.
The special episode, titled “The Joy We Share,” will air live on television networks in more than a dozen African countries, with additional distribution internationally. This will expand the reach of the program to an anticipated African audience of approximately 8 million people across the continent.
Elder Isaac K. Morrison, Second Counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency, said, “Music is such an important part of how we worship as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The gospel of Jesus Christ is joyful, hopeful, and filled with light. The music of the Choir is joyful, and we are so excited to be able to share this sacred music with our friends and neighbors across all of Africa. Our hope is that as people listen, they will feel hope, feel peace and feel the love of the Savior in their hearts.”
The “Music and the Spoken Word” weekly broadcast will originate from the Salt Lake Tabernacle at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, at its regular time of 9:30 a.m. MDT. Special pre- and post-broadcast programming on April 19 in the Tabernacle will include performances by members of the St. Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and members of the Parley’s Creek Branch (Swahili speaking) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This special program will include brief messages from Church leaders with connections to Africa.
Doors to the Tabernacle will open at 8:15 a.m. MDT. The special programming and broadcast will be available from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. MDT, both in person and on Facebook Live. For additional information, visit TabChoir.org/Africa.
