Lincoln County, WY – Lincoln County Emergency Management is alerting residents to heightened wildfire danger as the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the southern half of Lincoln County from March 18th through March 21 at 9PM. Critical fire weather conditions – including low humidity, warm temperatures, and strong winds – may cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly. Fire danger is elevated throughout the county, including areas not included in the Red Flag Warning. Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions to mitigate potential for fires to start.
Current Conditions
• Red Flag Warning in effect for: Southern Lincoln County
• Weather concerns: Low humidity, strong winds with gusts up to 40mph, unseasonably high temperatures.
• Elevated fire danger County-wide
Public Safety Recommendations
Residents are strongly encouraged to take the following precautions during the Red Flag Warning:
• Avoid outdoor burning, including debris fires, burn barrels, and fireworks.
• Postpone activities that could create sparks, such as welding, grinding, or driving vehicles over dry grass.
• Secure chains on trailers to prevent dragging sparks.
• Report smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.
Community Preparedness Guidance
Residents can help strengthen wildfire resilience by:
• Clearing dry vegetation, leaves, and debris within 30 feet of homes
• Maintaining defensible space around structures
• Creating and reviewing household evacuation plans
• Preparing go‐kits with essential documents, medications, and supplies
• Staying informed through official alerts and local notifications
