The Star Valley Braves won in the 4A quarterfinals for the second time in the past three seasons as they defeated Cheyenne Central 70-61 on Thursday afternoon. The Braves led by double digits on multiple occasions throughout the game and put the game away as the Indians put them at the line in an attempt to cut into the deficit.
Cooper Lancaster led all scorers with 32 points, the fifth time this season and the second time in the last two weekends he has scored at least 30 in a game. Lancaster also led the team with nine rebounds and helped salt the game away by making 11 of 15 free throw attempts.
Roman Erickson scored seven of his 16 points early in the game as he established the low block and also finished with seven rebounds. Dylan Shymway scored eight, Tayt Lawson hit a pair of three-point baskets to finish with six and Will Linford scored five. Lincoln Liddiard finished with six rebounds.
The Indians were led by Owen Woods who finished with 23 points and ten rebounds. Christ Martin made it into double digits as well with ten points.
The win moves the Braves into the 4A semifinals where they will take on the top-ranked Sheridan Broncs who rolled over Green River 76-39. The Broncs will enter the game having won 19 games in a row and just one loss on the season. That came to Arvada West (Colorado) on the opening weekend of the season. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. SVI Media will have audio coverage of the contest on Swift 98 in the Star Valley area, here at svinews.com and on the SVI News app.
