Star Valley High School track and field is back into their 2026 outdoor schedule this week as they travel to Idaho for the Sugar-Salem Invite. Both the boys and girls teams are coming off team wins at the Malad Invite prior to shutting down for Spring Break.
“We had some good marks at Malad before the break and we’re hoping to keep that momentum,” replied head coach Draney. “Elia [Matautia] and Jonah [Manu] prequalified in the discus and we’re looking for those types of marks to find our strengths which makes us better as a team.
The area tracksters will be in a pair of different locales next week with athletes traveling to Evanston on April 16, and to Rigby for events on April 17-18.
The Dave Draney Invite is scheduled for Thursday, April 23 at SVHS.
Star Valley will also host the 4A West Regionals on May 15-16 with programs from the conference invading Afton before State Track.
Draney believes this week’s event will challenge the program and also remind them that they don’t have much time before the end of the season.
“Sugar is always a powerhouse, so it will be a better measurement for us that Malad was but it’s a great chance for great competition to bring out great marks,” he added. “Hopefully we can stay healthy and figure out where all our chess pieces need to be in May.”
