Community members are being asked to support a longtime member of the Afton Volunteer Fire Department following a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Family members told SVI News that Kipp Johnson, who has been with AFD for 26 years, began chemo and radiation treatments earlier this week.

“Kipp had a passion for his former career as a carpenter,” said his niece Kaydence Johnson. “Due to his recent medical issues in the past two years he has been unable to work. His wife Missy is a cook at Thayne Elementary but has recently picked up several more jobs to keep afloat.”

Donations can be made to an account at the Bank of Star Valley under the name “The Kipp Johnson Benefit.” In addition, a Facebook auction has been created titled “Spark the Fight for Kipp.” Donated items can be bid on in the comments of each item, with the proceeds from the winning bids benefiting the Johnson family. The auction will end January 5 at 7:00 p.m. Local businesses and community members who would like to donate items or services can do so by simply joining the group and posting the item details. Numerous items and services have already been donated that are available for bidding.

“Bidding on items will tremendously support this amazing firefighter who generously gave to our community and now gives us a turn to give back,” states the information about the Facebook group. “Every donation and bid counts!”
