Gregg Fischer

Gregg Fischer

Gregg Fischer was born on September 5, 1945 in Glendale, California to Alvin Eugene and Roberta “Betty” Fischer. Gregg passed away last fall on September 6th.

Gregg grew up in Lancaster and Glendale, California. He graduated from Glendale High School in 1962. He attended Orange Coast College.

Gregg enjoyed many outdoor adventures in California in his younger years, but was drawn to the Rocky Mountains. In the fall of 1967 Gregg planned a trip to Montana. On his way to Montana, he traveled through Star Valley, stopping in Alpine. After enjoying his stay in Alpine, Gregg returned to California, packed his bags and belongings and moved to Alpine the following Spring.

An avid outdoorsman, Gregg was a skilled hunter, fisherman, trapper, hiker, outfitter, and taxidermist. He purchased the Deadman Creek Hunting Camp in the Greys River from Lowell Gardner and ran the camp for many years. He guided many hunters in the Greys River area and other parts of Wyoming, too.

After selling his hunting camp he enjoyed his retirement years by spending winters in Mexico, often fishing or boating on the Sea of Cortez.

While hunting caribou in Alaska with his good friend Don Cribbins and favorite hunting guide Jake Jacobson in September of 2000, Gregg survived a grizzly bear attack in Alaska. He made his way home to Alpine to recover and recuperate from the encounter.

Gregg is survived by his companion, Lori LoBuono, his brothers Alvin and Wayne, his sister Sherry and her husband John, nieces and nephews, and many close friends and neighbors in Alpine. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, July 12th in front of his cabin on Lodge Lane in Alpine. Friends and family will gather at 2:30 p.m.
