At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, members of the Afton Fire Department were dispatched to the call of a fire threatening several acres of dry material.
According to the Afton Fire Department, a homeowner in the Osmond area was burning a small wood pile when the nearby field caught fire. The AFD’s quick response contained the fire to just a couple of acres and kept the fire from spreading toward nearby homes and a hay field.
Fire conditions in the area are currently considered ‘High’ in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and surrounding areas.
Star Valley is currently experiencing dry conditions with little precipitation and temperatures routinely in the mid to upper 80s. Gusting wind conditions in the forecast could also add to the potential for fire danger in the the following days.
