The Star Valley High School volleyball team is offering a car wash, bake sale and rummage sale fundraiser this Saturday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Afton Volunteer Firehouse at 175 Washington on Afton.  All proceeds go toward travel expenses for the team as they compete this season.

With their season kicking off at Cheyenne Central on the eastern side of the state in the last weekend of August, and a vast majority of their games happening away from home this season, the team could benefit from the community’s support to cover food, warm up clothing and additional incidental expenses.

“If you look at our schedule, we are only scheduled to play four games at home,” said Coach Kalin Schwab. “When we are gone a lot, it gets expensive.”

Girls will wave folks down from the road and cars will enter on the side of the fire station to have their car washed.  The team is asking for $10 for each car washing. Parking for the bake sale and rummage sale will be available across the street at the fairgrounds, along the road or behind the firehouse.

The team players are supplying baked goods and “lightly used stuff that folks can come and get for a really good price.”  Guests can expect vintage items as well as treasures from recent decades.

The team will also have a donation jar ready to receive any additional donations for the program. Folks who would like to make a donation but are unable to attend the fundraiser can contact any player or Coach Schwab at the high school.

“There will be limited opportunities to support these girls at home this season because we will be on the road a lot,” said Schwab. “These girls are going to work hard. They want to make a name for themselves. They want to make Star Valley proud.”

Schwab feels that attendance at the fundraiser and home games later in the season will be a good way for the community to show their support for the team.
