Stage One restrictions include any open fire or discharge of any class of fireworks on all state and private land within the county.
Exemptions to the restrictions include:
- Campfires at a residence or campsites, within a stone or metal fire ring centered within a minimum of a 15 foot cleared radius of burnable materials.
- Trash or refuse burned between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 am. inside containers equipped with spark arresters that are located within a cleared radius of a minimum of 15 feet of burnable materials.
- Charcoal fires within enclosed grills are permitted.
- Use of acetylene cutting, electric arc welders, or metal grinding, in a cleared radius of a minimum of 15 feet of burnable materials is permitted.
- The use of portable stoves, lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum, pressurized liquid fuel or fully enclosed (sheepherder type) stove and open fire branding activities in a cleared radius of 15 feet is permitted.
According to the resolution, violation of the restrictions may result in a fine not to exceed $100 or imprisonment not to exceed thirty days or both.
The Bridger-Teton National Forest put in similar restrictions on all forest service land on August 12. Those restrictions included any fire, including charcoal and briquettes, except in a permanent metal or concrete fire pit or in a fully enclosed metal stove with a chimney. All fireworks and explosives, smoking and welding are also prohibited on forest service land.
The fire danger rating for the Teton Interagency Dispatch area remains at “very high,” meaning a fire may start easily, spread rapidly and burn intensely.
