The first competition of the 2025 fall season took place this past week as the Star Valley High School golf program hosted most of the southwest region of the state at their invitational at Valli Vu Golf Course in Afton. The Star Valley boys fielded two teams with the Crimson squad winning the team race.

“We had eight teams, nine if you count the two boys teams we suited up for our home event,” replied head coach Kelly Fullmer. “Our boys coming out and not only winning their first tournament but also winning it at home is a great way to start the season, and I hope they continue to gain confidence and toughness going forward.”

Deegan Hill had the top individual score for the Braves, shooting a 153 and finishing fourth. T.J. Atkinson of Rock Springs won the event with a 142. Daltyn DeCora, Kellan Stout and Zorian Horn also had top-ten finishes.

“I was particularly pleased with junior Daltyn DeCora who started as our top ranked player this week but settled into the two position behind our sophomore Deegan Hill who lead our boys after two 18-hole rounds,” Fullmer responded. “Senior Kellan Stout carded our lowest score, a 78, on day two, and we expect great things out of him this season as well. Rounding out our top five were senior Zorian Horn and Sophomore Braxton Johnson who both had solid first outings. Seniors Bran Fullmer and Mykell Nunez are just outside of the top 5 vying to break into those ranks followed by surprise newcomer freshman Wyatt Pack.”

The Lady Braves finished second behind defending champion Evanston. The Devils scored 537 with Star Valley shooting a 568.

“The were led by our three returning varsity players from last season juniors Kate Ricks and Paylan Merrite and senior Amelia Green,” Fullmer continued. “The latter two scored both days in the 90’s and Ricks shot an outstanding 84 for us on day two. Joined by junior Presley Frome whose hard work and practice have landed her on the varsity squad and another surprising freshman Tynlee Robinson, our varsity squad should be solid this year and be competitive every place we play.”

The SVHS teams were in Lander this week with scores not available by print deadline.  The junior varsity will be playing in Kemmerer at Fossil Island Golf Course on Wednesday.
