Afton Food Pantry among recipients of Wyoming Hunger Initiative Grant

The Afton Food Pantry is among a list of organizations across the State of Wyoming that is receiving a grant from the Wyoming Hunger Initiative. First Lady Jennie Gordon’s Wyoming Hunger Initiative allocated a total of $152,891 to help fund infrastructure needs. Grants of up to $5,000 were distributed to anti hunger organizations.
“The Afton Food Pantry is deeply honored to have been awarded an infrastructure grant from the Wyoming Hunger Initiative,” said Sierra Mitchell, President of the Afton Food Pantry.” With this support, we were able to replace our very first copy machine — a used one that had been donated when we first opened our doors nine years ago. This new copier is more than just equipment. It will allow us to work more efficiently, keep accurate records, and better serve the growing number of families who depend on us. By improving our day-to-day operations, WHI’s generosity ensures we can stay focused on what matters most: fighting hunger in Star Valley.
“We are grateful to both Silver Star’s Caring for Community Grant and the Wyoming Hunger Initiative for helping cover the cost of this much-needed upgrade. Thanks to their investment, we are already putting the new copier to work and continuing to strengthen our mission. On behalf of all of us volunteers and the families we serve, thank you to the Wyoming Hunger Initiative for your belief in community and your commitment to helping organizations like ours succeed.”
“The mission of Wyoming Hunger Initiative is to support the existing work of anti-hunger organizations across the state,” First Lady Jennie Gordon said. “It’s important to us that we allocate resources where they will have the greatest impact, as quickly as possible.”
A total of 27 applications across the state received funding. A portion of the monies for the grants were received through the initiative’s annual “Hearts for Hunger” program that was held in February.
