The Star Valley Lady Braves won two of three matches this past week including a pair of victories on the home court. The spikers swept both Jackson and Riverton at home and were swept themselves on the road against #4 Green River.
After waiting 15 matches to play at home, the Lady Braves enjoyed a pair of nice crowds which was buoyed by a boisterous student section.
“I was super proud of how we came out and played against Jackson,” replied head coach Kalin Schwab. “I also loved the community and the students for coming out to support. It was electric in that gym. The girls love to play for their fans and I think they put on a great show with everyone chipping in a handful of kills.”
The loss to Green River was not a match the girls felt they played their best.
“Green River was rough,” Schwab continued. “They are a good squad. I don’t think we got off the bus well, and it showed. We competed fairly well even though we got swept. I hope we find them again at regionals for another shot at them.”
Then with their third match in three days, but back on the home court, the Lady Braves routed Riverton. Despite a Saturday afternoon start time, there was a nice crowd on hand, again bolstered by the students.
“Riverton was a fun match,” Schwab added. “A lot of people showed up for an early afternoon match on a Saturday. We appreciate it! Again the girls came out tough at home. They really hit their serving targets and made it difficult for Riverton to stay in system. Every hitter contributed with kills and every passer got digs and kept us in system. It was a team effort.”
Up next for the girls will be the first of multiple trips to Casper this season as they travel to the Oil City for the Casper Invite.
The public is invited to plan to attend the Lady Braves’ next home match on October 1 as the host Preston for Pink Night
