$41.7 million spent at Devils Tower in 2024

• Visitors to Wyoming’s national parks spent a total of $1.2 billion

 

SUNDANCE (WNE) — According to the National Park Service, visitors to Wyoming’s national parks spent $1.2 billion in 2024 – and $41.7 million of that total was at Devils Tower National Monument.

A total of 8.1 million visitors enjoyed the sights and sounds of Wyoming’s five national parks, with a cumulative benefit to the state economy estimated at $1.5 billion.

“Parks have inspired people for generations and offer unique experiences for learning, recreation and renewal,” said Acting Regional Director Brian Carlstrom. “Visitors come to parks for a variety of experiences and their spending supports the economies of gateway communities.” 

Of the $41.7 million at Devils Tower, around a third was spent on hotels and around one fifth on restaurants. Visitors also spent a sizable chunk on gas and smaller amounts on recreation industries, retail, transportation, groceries and camping.

The most visitor spending was seen at Grand Teton at $808 million, followed by $710 million at Yellowstone. 

Visitors spent $1.3 million at Fossil Butte and $1.4 million at Fort Laramie.

The 2024 National Park Visitor Spending Effects report also found that visitors spent $29 billion in communities near national parks across the U.S. This spending provided $18.8 billion in labor income and $56.3 in economic output to the U.S. economy.

As with Devils Tower, the lodging sector saw the highest direct contributions with $11.1 billion in economic output and restaurants received the next greatest direct contributions with $5.7 billion in economic output.
