Colton Cranney was the only 4A runner under 16 minutes as he claimed the Wyoming 4A Cross-Country individual championship with a time of 15:59.80 on Saturday. Lucas Steveson of Cheyenne East was nearly five seconds behind with at time of 16:04.40. Sheridan freshman Eli Balkenbush was third with a time of 16:12.40.

The championships took place at a course near the Little America in Cheyenne.

It is the fourth straight individual 4A championship for a Star Valley runner as Cranney follows Jase Burton in 2024 and Habtamu Wetzel who won in both 2023 and 2022.  It adds to a legacy of excellence for the SVXC program as a Star Valley runner has won the championship nine times in the team’s last ten seasons.

Brigham Hahn earned All-State honors with an eighth place finish and a time of 16:54.60. The scoring five for the Braves consisted of Cranney, Hahn, Luke Harris, Sullivan Wilson and Caleb Crowther who all finished in the top 26 of the pack.

As a team, the Braves finished as the 4A runner-up with a team total of 70 points. Sheridan claimed the team title with a total of 57 points. This ended a three-season run for the Braves at the top of the 4A standings.

Cheyenne Central, the heavy favorite, claimed the team championship with a score of 42. Laramie was the runner-up with 72. 4A West champion Kelly Walsh was third with a total of 78.

Star Valley was led by Gracey Visser who ran a time of 20:22.96 which was good for 13th overall. Using pack running as a strength all season, the five scoring runners for the Lady Braves comprised of Visser, Kellsie Dunne, Carlee Angell, Tylita Bond and Kylee Linford,  all finished between 13th and 30th.
