Salt River Community Theater swings for the fences with “Damn Yankees”

Salt River Community Theater opens “Damn Yankees” Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Ford Theatre. Considered a true American Broadway classic, “Damn Yankees” will run eight performances this season with shows on November 13, 14, 15 and 17, as well as November 20, 21, 22 and 24. Guests of all ages are welcome and encouraged to enjoy this story of redemption set against the backdrop of America’s favorite past time.
Based on the novel, “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant” by Douglass Wallop, “Damn Yankees” was a Broadway mega-hit and winner of seven 1956 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This show tells the story of Washington Senators fan, Joe Boyd, who makes a deal with the Devil to ensure that the struggling Senators take home the pennant, but learns that genuine love, loyalty and integrity are worth more than a baseball championship.
“This show is so fun, and you get to see so many amazing personalities and personas come to life on the stage,” said Jaclyn Lechner, producer of the show. ” ‘Damn Yankees’ is a show for everyone, with catchy musical numbers, and fun dance numbers. You will be cheering on the Washington Senators along with the cast. Members of our community have worked so hard to put this show together for you! Come and support your friends, neighbors and community members.”
