Deering appointed as Circuit Court Judge in Lincoln County

Governor Mark Gordon (R-WY) has appointed Thomas Deering to be a Circuit Court Judge for the Third Judicial District serving Lincoln County. Deering’s appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Greg S. Corpening.

Mr. Deering grew up in Traverse City, Michigan. He received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Notre Dame and received his Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws degrees from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He previously served as Staff Attorney for Judge Richard Lavery in the Third Judicial District, Green River, Wyoming, since 2012, and as District Court Commissioner and Circuit Court Magistrate since 2013.

“Thomas has a keen legal intellect, and his very forthright personal skills will serve him well as he sits on the circuit court,” Governor Gordon said.  “A bench which, by the way, is most people’s first introduction to the court. His easy going manner will suit him well. These are always difficult decisions as all of the nominees are well qualified, but I believe Thomas is the right choice.”

“I am humbled and grateful to be appointed by the governor. I am very appreciative and honored by the trust he has shown in me by this appointment. I will work tirelessly to uphold that trust and be the best judge I can be. It has been an honor to serve the Wyoming Judiciary in Sweetwater County for the past thirteen years. I look forward to serving the people of Lincoln County and the State of Wyoming.”

Mr. Deering’s appointment is effective January 27, 2026. Along with Deering, John D. Bowers and Dean Stout were also considered for the position.
