Lxi Weber, Executive Director of the Star Valley Arts Council, and Janet Erickson, Chairman of the Board for the council, both called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Thursday, December 11 to promote this Saturday’s Star in the Valley Christmas Show, BYU Young Ambassadors and more upcoming events.
(0:00) 837 here as part of the weekday wake up on a Thursday and we are joined over the phone by Lexi Weber (0:06) She’s with the Star Valley Arts Council and in studio Janet Erickson (0:10) She’s going to be talking to us about the annual Stars in the Valley for a performance this weekend ladies (0:15) Thank you so much for joining us today (0:19) Lexi let’s start with you in terms of what’s well actually let’s start with Janet this morning (0:24) Sorry with Stars in the Valley coming up this weekend Janet kind of talked to us about what this is (0:29) This has happened for a couple years prior. Tell us what Stars in the Valley is and how people can enjoy it (0:34) Oh, thank you, Dal (0:37) We’ve been doing the Stars in the Valley concert (0:40) since 2019 and (0:43) it’s a (0:46) Grouping of (0:47) Local artists we have so many talented and gifted people who perform annually in this concert that are (0:54) right here in Star Valley and (0:57) So that’s happening on (0:59) Saturday evening (1:01) December 13th at 7 p.m. At the Star Valley High School auditorium (1:06) Tickets are $5 each and they’re available at (1:10) Star Valley arts org (1:13) our lineup for that concert is full of (1:17) high tempo up tempo dance numbers from beloved groups in the valley like Desi’s dance studio and (1:24) The tap classics. We also have a variety of vocalists (1:30) in groups and in soloists and we have some instrumentalists we have a harpist we have (1:37) Some violinists we have just and pianists (1:42) lots of really fantastic (1:45) musicians and (1:47) We’re really excited to have them present their art.
We also have (1:52) James Moser who will be (1:54) presenting a slideshow of his photography art and (1:59) That’s always beautiful to view as well (2:01) So I’m really excited to be part of this and our our artists are really looking forward to sharing their gifts with the valley (2:08) Something for everybody. It sounds like a lot of things Lexi bringing you back on here (2:13) this is all part of the Star Valley Arts Council and (2:16) Tell us about some of the busy things that are coming up not to Stars in the Valley (2:20) But you’ve got some other things coming up as well as far as the winter schedule (2:25) Yeah, the next thing that we have coming up is the BYU young ambassador show (2:31) For anyone not familiar. It’s a singing dancing group from BYU (2:36) BYU University (2:38) They are performing songs from the musical wicked which is really popular right now also (2:44) tangled Tarzan (2:46) Benson Boone Taylor Swift Queen so there really is something for everyone at that show (2:52) We have early bird pricing for tickets that goes through December 31st (2:57) And then our pricing does have to go up (2:59) So we encourage everyone to get their tickets early right now.
The prices are $12 for students and $20 for adults (3:07) The show is on Saturday, January 17th at 7 p.m (3:11) Also at the high school auditorium and those tickets are available on our website Star Valley Arts org (3:18) and in terms of a this is just one of many things taking place both you ladies heavily involved in (3:24) The arts in the local area as you talk about these different things (3:28) What are some other things that are planned for the future? Not just the young ambassadors in January, but but through the winter (3:35) Yeah (3:36) The town of Alpine has a winter Jubilee every year and last year (3:41) They invited the Arts Council to help them coordinate a snow sculpture contest (3:46) which was in conjunction with the Jubilee and (3:49) We ended up with seven absolutely incredible sculptures last year (3:54) We were just blown away by how good they were (3:57) Especially where it was the first year and most of these artists had never done anything like this before and we have pictures of those (4:04) on our (4:05) Social media people can look at those from last year (4:07) So we were asked to do the same thing this year and it was popular enough that we have kind of a unique dilemma (4:15) We have more sculpture sponsors and we have artists so many of these businesses (4:22) want to sponsor an artist to do this and (4:26) So we need to find more artists that are willing to do it. So if anyone is interested, we are looking for more artists (4:34) Anyone who’s interested can reach out to us at hello at star Valley arts org and (4:40) then we can send all of the information out and (4:43) See if we can work together (4:45) Always do some things coming down the pipe a little bit (4:47) But let’s I want to retouch on the stars in the valley this weekend Janet (4:51) Let’s bring you back on again stars in the valley. This has been going on for for a few years (4:56) Maybe kind of go over it one more time (4:58) When people can can come and when what they get what they’re gonna see and and how they can be involved and maybe it (5:04) Perks are interested in maybe wanting to be a part of it next year.
How does all that work? (5:09) Okay, so just a brief reminder (5:12) 7 p.m. Saturday night, December 13th at the high school auditorium (5:18) Tickets are available through star Valley arts org or you can of course pick them up at the door (5:25) $5 apiece (5:28) Typically if people are interested in being part of this concert they can contact the Arts Council (5:33) either through Lexi or through me (5:38) And we are always happy to to look into inviting someone to be part of the program (5:45) We have attempted auditions in the past, but didn’t have a great (5:51) Response to that. So we’ve just reached out to people that we know (5:57) Have the ability to be part of the concert and present something entertaining and enjoyable for the public. I (6:04) keep a database of (6:07) Artists in the valley and so if you are interested in being part of the things that we produce this way (6:14) Please reach out to us so that we make sure that you’re part of our database (6:19) And Lexi just one more thing I wanted to talk with you obviously we have stars in the valley (6:23) We have the BYU Young Ambassadors coming up on January 17th (6:27) You talked about the snow sculptures as part of the winter jubilee in Alpine on January 30th (6:32) And on my list also down the road a piece as I say (6:36) February 2nd through the 6th.
You’ve got an oil painting workshop as well. Tell us about that (6:42) Yep, this will be our third week long oil painting workshop. It’s been very popular (6:48) It’s learning to paint in the old master style (6:51) you can learn to (6:53) paint either a portrait or a landscape and I have photos of (6:59) past workshop (7:02) Participants paintings on our website so that you can see how these turn out (7:07) Because I want people to realize that beginners can be very successful in this workshop (7:12) I don’t want anyone to be intimidated because it really is for everyone (7:16) The techniques that you learn (7:20) The steps that you take (7:22) Make it so that anyone can really do this.
The cost is $600 for the week (7:28) But I’ve also set it up so that you can (7:31) Do it in payments (7:33) You don’t have to do the $600 all at once and it just has to be paid by that February 2nd (7:38) And there’s more information and you can register all of that on our website star Valley arts org (7:43) Sounds like a great resource star Valley arts org ladies (7:46) Thank you very much for coming in and checking with these with us today anything (7:50) We haven’t touched on that either of you might want to mention (7:53) That’s it. All right, Janet Erickson with stars in the valley this weekend and Lexi Weber with Star Valley Arts Council ladies (8:00) Thank you again very much. Thank you for your time.
Thanks. Del. Thank you
