Property tax exemption application deadline is February 1

Full time Wyoming residents have until February 1 to apply for a 25% property tax exemption. For those who qualify, the exemption is 25% of the fair market value of a single family residential structure and the associated improved land. The exemption only applies to the first one million dollars of the fair market value and some limitations may apply.

According to the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office, the 25% reduction has already been applied to homeowners for the current tax period. However, homeowners will need to apply for the reduction if they want it applied in future years.

“Beginning in tax year 2026, any taxpayer that owns and resides in a single family residential structure as defined in W.S. 39-11-105(a)(xlvi) may be eligible to claim an exemption, if they reside on property for not less than eight (8) months of the year,” reads the information on the ptd.wyo.gov.

There are no income requirements to qualify. Reduce property taxes are eligible for single family dwellings for residents who occupy the property full time.

To apply, residents need to complete the affidavit process online at ptd.wyo.gov/ownerocc. Anyone with questions can contact the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office at (307) 877-2030.
