Independent Notes: Record number of awards for SVI !

Aubrey Hale, Amanda Nelson, and Aubrey Taylor attended the 127th Wyoming Press Association Convention this past weekend, bringing home 23 awards for the Star Valley Independent. Find a feature in the January 21, 2026 edition.

The past year has been a year of achievements for the SVI Media.

Our morning show, “Weekday Wake-up” received the Wyoming Association of Broadcaster’s award for best quality in the state.

I agree. I travel throughout Wyoming on a regular basis and listen to local radio programs. No one is touching what SVI is doing with that morning show as it combines news and entertainment in ways that make it a great start to the day.

And speaking of not touching — I point to the quality of the SVI sports broadcasts.

SVI has raised the bar for high school sports coverage in Wyoming.

If you’re at a Star Valley athletic event on a Friday night, you better have your phone in hand or a computer in front of you. You don’t want to miss a quality multi-camera, radio simulcast, broadcast.

The SVI crew brings Star Valley athletics home to a record numbers of live viewers every week. Basketball has averaged 7,000 to 18,000 live views and football, 16,000 to 28,000, with over 70,000 for the Star Valley vs Cody game.

Now, let’s go to digital and print.  This past weekend the SVI staff brought home 23 awards from the Wyoming Press Association. This is a record number for SVI, from an exceptionally talented staff. See the feature in the January 21, 2026 edition.

That’s what we do behind the scenes, each and every week — keep the airwaves filled, along  with maintain the digital and print work for SVI.

The staff at SVI, Duke Dance, Dahl Erickson, Aubrey Taylor, Janet Erickson, Aubrey Hale and Amanda Nelson make it happen. Amanda is our pivot  person as she keeps it all together running the home base operations while the rest of us chase the stories, events, ads and so much more to keep a newspaper, website, app, live-stream and three radio stations performing at their best for those we serve.

And, we don’t want to forget all the young people that collate newspapers, deliver those newspapers and run the cameras at sporting events.  We have incredible youth here in Star Valley.

This past year we celebrated an anniversary — 40 years with the SVI.

We are blessed with a tremendous staff. We’re honored  to be a part of the Star Valley and Wyoming community.

We’re proud to be a part of SVI !
