Salt River Arts is calling for auditions of the Valentine’s season event, “Love Letters in Song,” which is a showcase of timeless love songs. Auditions are due February 23 before midnight and the showcase performance is February 27 at 7 p.m. in the historic Ford Theatre.

Directed by Jessica Rasmussen, the showcase is intended as an opportunity for local artists to share their musical talent through love songs, be they vocal, instrumental or a combination of the two. Performers are invited to submit solo or ensemble work through a one-minute video recording.

Salt River Arts Executive Director, Jaclyn Lechner, has hoped to increase this type of offering to the art community. “What better showcase to start with than one celebrating love songs throughout time,” asked Rasmussen. “I’d love to see people audition with classics as old as ‘Unforgettable’ originated by Nat King Cole,” or as contemporary as “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. “Any and all love songs” are welcome!

“I want people sharing songs that they love about love or that help them feel love,” said Rasmussen. “I would love to see people audition with the people that they love (family and friends).”

Rasmussen believes that music is one of the most powerful ways that people can share love. “Everyone deserves to show and feel loved, especially at this time in our world. I feel like music can help evoke that to our audience that comes to the show.”
