SVI Radio Interview: Jennie & Bryan Drollinger – “As Sure As The Stars”

Local author Jennie Drollinger stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Wednesday, February 18 to promote the publication of her book As Sure As The Stars: The Sweetheart Romance That Happened.

(0:00) Heading into another guest interview segment this morning (0:02) and a now published author joining us in studio today. (0:07) It’s always a pleasure to touch base with Jenny Drollinger, (0:10) Brian Drollinger, of course, in studio as well. (0:13) And the book, As Sure As The Stars, (0:15) is published out and available now.

(0:18) Brian, Jenny, congratulations. (0:20) Jenny, how does it feel to say (0:21) you’re a published author now? (0:23) How about that? (0:24) That just kind of blew me away for a minute. (0:27) Wow, yeah, surreal.

(0:29) Yeah, absolutely. (0:30) So, of course, we’ve had you guys in studio (0:33) after being named couple of the year, (0:36) America’s favorite couple. (0:38) And if I’m understanding correctly, (0:40) this book is kind of based on your story, right? (0:43) It’s our story.

(0:44) Yeah. (0:45) About 90% of it. (0:47) About 10% of it’s fiction.

(0:48) You know, we had to change some names up (0:50) and things like that. (0:52) Sure. (0:52) That’s pretty close.

(0:53) No embellishment on any of the stories at all, right? (0:55) Of course not, no embellishment. (0:57) It’s actually, yeah, pretty much 90% is true. (1:00) Okay.

(1:01) It’s crazy, you can’t make it up. (1:02) Very cool. (1:03) So, As Sure As The Stars, tell us, (1:05) let’s talk about the process (1:07) of just putting a book together.

(1:08) I know that this was a huge, huge undertaking. (1:11) Brian, let’s start with you on that. (1:14) He’s the one that started it.

(1:17) Well, I didn’t know what it was gonna entail. (1:19) Let’s put it that way. (1:21) From start to finish, it’s been a process.

(1:25) The whole thing, it’s like, (1:26) there’s so many moving parts to it. (1:28) You just don’t realize. (1:31) And we decided to create our own publishing company, (1:34) which we named after my mom, after her passing.

(1:38) And that was crazy in itself. (1:41) Being our own publisher, (1:42) we didn’t know what we were doing. (1:42) We’d be our own publisher, yeah.

(1:43) And we didn’t know what we were doing. (1:45) We still don’t. (1:46) But we did it.

(1:47) We did it. (1:48) What did we do? (1:49) Absolutely got it done. (1:50) Lots of people helping us.

(1:51) Yeah, we had quite a few people. (1:52) Like the type setting to the, (1:53) we have till noon to get everything right this time. (1:57) And it’s like pressure, pressure.

(1:59) You gotta get it done, read it. (2:00) There’s been so many versions that it’s kind of, (2:03) I’m like, when we finally had the voice actors, (2:08) because we’re uploading it to Audible, (2:10) and we’re reading through the chapters, (2:12) or listening to the chapters, (2:13) I was like, oh, that’s the version (2:15) we decided to come up with. (2:16) Okay, because I was lost at it.

(2:18) So the final copy is what it is. (2:21) And, yeah. (2:23) Absolutely, absolutely love it.

(2:25) So when was it officially made available? (2:28) Just a few days ago, right? (2:29) Yesterday. (2:30) Yesterday? (2:31) Yeah, yesterday. (2:32) It was officially made available yesterday.

(2:34) Well, it’s been, there’s been a pre-sale (2:36) on Barnes & Noble’s, but it’s a little costly. (2:39) Barnes & Noble’s a little more expensive than Amazon. (2:41) So we’re promoting Amazon.

(2:44) It’s a little more affordable. (2:45) Well, that’s where I’m looking at it right now. (2:47) And so if you go to Amazon, (2:48) search for As Sure As The Stars, (2:52) it’ll pop up there, $19.99. (2:54) You can get the Kindle version for five bucks, (2:57) and it’s available right there.

(2:58) So I think this is really cool, (3:02) and it’s kind of been in conjunction with a podcast (3:04) that you’re doing as well right now, correct, Jenny? (3:07) The podcast is the book’s fault. (3:11) It started out, do you want to write a book with me, Jenny? (3:13) I want to write your story with Trisha Goyer. (3:15) She’s a well-known Christian author, (3:18) lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.

(3:19) We’re gonna be down there next week (3:20) doing a book signing with her. (3:22) But she’s like, you know what, (3:23) we could turn this into a podcast. (3:24) I’m like, oh yes, we could.

(3:26) So we became me. (3:29) So yes, so now my official podcast (3:32) is Second Chance on Love, side B, (3:34) referencing the 80s cassette tape, (3:36) because we’re a second chance, (3:38) so side B’s the best side, right? (3:39) Not side A, but. (3:41) So what I do is interview other couples (3:44) that have had stories similar to ours (3:45) with second chances, you know, divorce, (3:48) you think there’s, you know, you’re lost (3:50) and your life has been, rug’s been ripped (3:52) from underneath you and there’s no hope.

(3:55) And so I want to share other stories with real couples. (3:58) And so far, I’ve interviewed three people, (4:02) and yeah, yeah, new episode drops every Tuesday. (4:07) Okay, and where can people find that podcast (4:10) and what’s it titled? (4:11) It’s Second Chance on Love, side B. (4:13) Perfect.

(4:14) And it’s on Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. (4:18) Okay, perfect. (4:19) Anything else about the book (4:21) that you guys would like to mention today? (4:23) It has a lot of 80s, you know, references.

(4:27) It’s like an 80s rom-com. (4:29) It goes, it starts in modern time (4:32) and then there’s memories of, oh, you know, (4:36) you hear a song and then you go back in time (4:38) and it goes back in time to 1985 to Alaska (4:42) and then back to reality. (4:44) So it kind of goes back and forth.

(4:45) But there’s a lot of 80s references (4:46) like Strawberry Lip Smacker, Jelly Shoes, (4:49) Duran Duran, music. (4:51) There’s a lot of, you know, Giorgio Beverly Hills, (4:54) Dracar, anything 80s, it’s in there. (4:56) Very cool.

(4:57) Speaking of songs, it also, of course, (5:00) references the song that we play on our station, Brian, (5:02) that you wrote about your mother. (5:04) Yeah, It’s Love. (5:05) Yes, and actually my mom passed away, (5:08) unfortunately, about two weeks before our wedding.

(5:12) And so I wrote a song for her with my brother (5:15) and I also wrote a song for Jenny for our wedding (5:19) and kind of a whirlwind thing that happened there. (5:22) But yeah, that song actually that I wrote for my mom, (5:26) that’s what kind of got us started, (5:29) got me back into writing again (5:31) and also got us to think about maybe writing a book (5:35) about our story. (5:37) She’s been very inspirational for us.

(5:40) And the podcast, the song that he wrote for his mom. (5:45) Oh, it was the intro and outro to the? (5:46) The intro and outro, the 80s version. (5:48) I’m like, you know what? (5:49) It’s Love, this is such a catchy tune.

(5:50) Why don’t you make it 80s, like with synthesizers (5:53) until that’s what they did? (5:55) And I love the version. (5:58) Absolutely, absolutely do. (5:59) So again, Star Valley resident, Jenny K. Drollinger (6:02) and As Sure As The Stars.

(6:05) The book is available now. (6:06) You can find it on Amazon. (6:08) Just search for Jenny Drollinger or As Sure As The Stars (6:11) and you can get a Kindle or paperback version.

(6:14) So congratulations again. (6:16) Thank you. (6:16) Thanks.

(6:16) Absolutely. (6:17) It’s all part of the weekday wake up this morning (6:18) on the SBI Radio Network.
