SVI Radio Interview: Dr. Alex Oliver – Wyoming Classical Academy-Alpine

SVI Media’s Dan Dockstader spoke with Dr. Alex Oliver, the first Headmaster of Wyoming Classical Academy-Alpine, to discuss the upcoming first year of the school.

(0:00) Dr. Alex Oliver with Alpine Class School. We’re here tonight at the Big Alpine Gala for the new (0:06) charter school that’s coming and we have the person who will be running it out. Dr. Alex, (0:11) tell us about your thoughts on being chosen to oversee the school in Alpine.

So I’m very excited (0:17) to take on this opportunity. Again, we have the chance to really show not only Alpine, (0:22) but the whole state of Wyoming, what this area and what the school has the opportunity to (0:26) provide for the kids of this community. We have so many different children coming from different (0:32) backgrounds, different demographics, and we want to show them that it doesn’t just take a (0:36) cookie cutter model to really reach in each individual children.

We want to provide multiple (0:41) opportunities for every child to succeed and be successful in whatever path that they’re taking, (0:46) whether it’s moving on past middle school, moving into high school. Once they exit out that (0:51) secondary setting, we want to make sure that they’re being successful, whether going into college, (0:55) going into the workforce, getting various certifications. We just want to make sure that (0:59) they are prepared.

One of the biggest things that I see every single day that I know that children (1:03) thrive from when they’re in education is having the opportunity to be seen, be valued, and be heard. (1:10) Those three opportunities right there will show success in every single child. When they know (1:15) that you are there for them, they turn around and provide that effort that you want to see within (1:20) your classroom.

Again, walking into the room, I want to see the smiles. I want to see that (1:25) excitement. When the teacher brings that enthusiasm, makes an environment that a child wants to be a (1:30) part of, they’re going to give you everything that they have every single day that they’re in the (1:34) room with you.

Obviously, Alpine is pleased to have you. This place is packed tonight at the gala for (1:38) the new Alpine charter school. Your thoughts on meeting Alpine and calling this your new home? (1:44) I was absolutely blown away.

I mean, this gala is beautiful. Everyone did an amazing job getting (1:51) everything set up. We truly have a packed house tonight, and I truly can’t express how much (1:57) gratitude I have for the support that’s being given to this school, that’s being provided in (2:01) every aspect.

We have everybody jumping around, bending over backwards to give their full support (2:07) to make sure that this school is top-notch and has everything that they could possibly (2:12) need to be successful. Exciting for you to launch it from the beginning? Absolutely. I mean, I am (2:17) truly excited to be a part of this whole process in getting the right teachers, getting the right (2:22) staff, really boosting enrollment.

I’m keeping an eye on those numbers every single day, and every (2:27) day they go up just a little bit more, a little bit more. Now that I’m starting to come in the (2:32) picture a little bit more, I can put my face to the school, and we can really start having those (2:36) conversations. I’m constantly looking for those talks, so if we have parents, we have community (2:42) members that want to know more about Wyoming Classical at Alpine, please email me.

Come find (2:47) the school. I’d love to show it off. As soon as we have the building open, ready to go, we have (2:52) open doors, and I want to get as many people in there to show the amazing things that we have (2:56) going on every single day.

Dr. Alex Oliver, the new Alpine Charter School, Alpine Classical, (3:01) TANDOX, and our SVI Media in Alpine tonight.
