Mayor Ru Rok recently discussed the potential annexation of the Mountain Estates Subdivision during an interview on the Weekday Wake-up on the SVI Radio. The subdivision, located on the eastern side of Muddy String Road and just north of Crater Canyon Road, is seeking to join Star Valley Ranch after existing within Lincoln County.

The area encompasses 52 planned townhomes and 65 single-family lots, although only four townhomes have been constructed so far. Mayor Rok emphasized the importance of gathering information on the financial impacts of the annexation, exploring both costs and potential revenue.

Residents have expressed mixed feelings about the annexation, particularly regarding an anticipated increase in traffic. However, Mayor Rok assured that the development would proceed regardless of annexation, leaving the town with the option to influence planning and zoning regulations if it becomes part of the municipality. The town council is in the information-gathering phase and will not make a decision until later in the spring, likely around April, in line with a 180-day statutory timeline.

Beyond the annexation discussion, the town council also addressed the ongoing proposal for an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) special district, which may increase property taxes. Mayor Rok noted a supportive community sentiment but added concerns about potential financial impacts.

As the town prepares for warmer months, Mayor Rok highlighted the urgent need to address the condition of unpaved roads, many of which have suffered from the harsh winter weather. Additional road improvement projects are set to commence, and the town has applied for a federal grant aimed at enhancing road infrastructure.
