A public hearing for liquor license renewals was held for several establishments, including Pine’s Bar, Broulim’s Supermarket, Graze, Dad’s Bar and Steakhouse, Forever West on Main, and El Rodeo Authentic Mexican Restaurant. With no public comments, the renewals were swiftly approved, confirming the licenses will be valid from March 14, 2026, to March 13, 2027.
Phil Tippetts presented the annual audit report via video conference, confirming a successful audit with an unmodified opinion. He noted that while there were no major concerns, ongoing segregation of duties issues were highlighted, requiring the council’s vigilance to ensure financial integrity.
The Council welcomed a proposal from young entrepreneur Helen DeNiz to operate a hotdog stand during summer sports events. They waived the business license requirement, expressing support for youth initiatives, and agreed to provide necessary electrical power and waste management.
Matthew Roberts, president of the VFW Auxiliary in Star Valley, sought clarification on licensing for selling raffle tickets at events, confirming that no business license would be required.
Engineer Kade Smith provided updates on three projects. The East Booster generator is still being monitored, with delays acknowledged by the company and completion expected by the end of February. For the North Sewer Line, easement descriptions are ready for landowner review, and if no issues arise, permitting could be completed by April for summer construction. Regarding the wastewater treatment facility, a BioWorks representative confirmed that many aerators need replacement, but most of the existing system can be reused, with improvements expected to last 10-20 years. Smith also mentioned that groundwater repairs are included in a funding application due for review in August, with plans for implementation by summer 2027.
When asked about projects for the upcoming budget, parents in attendance discussed the need for shade structures. Councilmember Heward explained they were considering shade options for both the ball diamonds and playground area, noting that playground shade has been the top request from citizens for two years.
SVI Media sought approval to host a combined softball and cornhole tournament as a fundraiser for their trip to Alaska to cover football games. The event will utilize town facilities, registration systems, and insurance coverage. Mayor Simpson proposed July 3, as a possible date, noting it would be a work holiday and likely attract good participation. Councilmember Heward offered to assist with organizing the event and coordinating volunteer support.
The next town council meeting will be held on March 18, 2026.
