The Lady Braves battled through another slugfest with the Natrona County Fillies on Friday, coming away with a 42-39 victory that extends their season to the final day of the 2025-26 basketballs season. Star Valley will now face the Sheridan Lady Broncs for the consolation bracket trophy with a 9 a.m. tip-off time on Saturday morning.
Despite beating the Fillies three times already this season things looked bleak late in the game as the lady Braves trailed by seven points and time becoming an issue. Ari Foster hit a huge three-point basket and the Lady Brave reversed some poor free throw shooting from the first half to close the gap. Morgan McGee took a huge charge on the wrong end of a fast break, forcing the turnover and allowing the Lady Braves to erase the deficit.
After shooting just 35% from the charity stripe in the first half, the Lady Braves made six of their last seven attempts in crunch time to take a small lead which held up after the Fillies’ tying shot was off the mark and pulled down by McGee. She and Foster led the team with ten points each while Ambrey Nelson scored seven and hauled in ten rebounds. Avery England also finished with seven points and Hudsyn Kleeman chipped in five including a pair of pressure free throws.
The win was the first in the State tournament for the Lady Braves’ program since 2021 when they defeated Cheyenne Central. Should they win the consolation trophy it would be the first hardware for the Star Valley girls in the 4A bracket in their history. It was also the fifth straight victory over Natrona County including 4-0 this season after being 0-16 versus the Fillies as recent as last year.
