SHERIDAN (WNE) — The Wyoming Department of Corrections has announced a new partnership with the Department of War SkillBridge Program, creating a direct pathway for transitioning service members to continue their commitment to public service through employment with the WDOC. 

The program has officially launched and is now live on the DoW’s SkillBridge Program website, marking a step forward in expanding career opportunities for those transitioning from military service.

The SkillBridge Program allows eligible service members to spend the final 180 days of their military service participating in civilian job training and internships while continuing to receive their military pay and benefits. 

Eligible participants for WDOC must meet the hiring requirements set by the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training and the WDOC hiring criteria. Participants will receive hands-on training in correctional operations, including de-escalation techniques, facility security and correctional law.

Upon completion of the SkillBridge program and their military service, participants will be eligible for full-time employment with WDOC and certification through the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training program.

WDOC leaders say the partnership strengthens the department’s workforce while providing meaningful career opportunities for veterans.

“Service members already possess the leadership, discipline, and sense of duty that define strong correctional professionals,” said Director Daniel Shannon. “This partnership allows the WDOC to connect those values directly to our mission of protecting Wyoming communities. For many service members, this is not the end of their service—it’s simply a new way to continue it.”

This initiative also supports WDOC’s ongoing recruitment efforts while helping service members transition smoothly from military service into stable careers in public safety.
