Silo Floral and Market, owned by Shannon Cowan, has been named the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce’s April Business of the Month. The chamber cited the shop’s role in bringing renewed energy to Thayne and expanding its offerings beyond traditional floral arrangements.

Cowan previously owned a flower shop in Logan for seven years. After spending time away, she said she was drawn back into the industry and later operated a business in Afton before moving to Thayne. She purchased a long-occupied downtown building and shared what led her to it.

“Honestly, before I ever moved here, I had my eye on that building. I’ve always looked at buildings and have seen their potential, and it was one I had been watching for quite a while. I approached the  owner to see if it was for sale. Taking a chance paid off—the owner said yes, and I thought, ‘Oh no—now we’ve really got to do this.’”

Since taking over, Cowan has made improvements, including fresh paint, new floors, and windows, and she has added green bins to support future projects with local growers. She also described plans for a potting shed and a possible co-op concept.

Today, Silo Floral serves the community with flowers for weddings, funerals, and birthdays, while also offering gifts, home goods, and locally produced items. Cowan said the shop features products from local businesses, including The Sourdough Nest, Shumway Farms, The Meat Block, Squire Farms, and more, with items such as microgreens, sourdough, honey, and jam.

Cowan also said the shop highlights local artists and encourages residents to “support as much local as possible.” She credited the shop’s success to community support and said she enjoys meeting new people every day.

Silo Floral is located at 190 N Main St. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shop can be found on Facebook and Instagram by searching Silo Floral.
