Star Valley High School Skills USA students participated in the Wyoming State competition last weekend in Casper. Seven students emerged as state champions and six students finished with silver medals.

“We had a great week at State,” said Skills USA Advisor, Tyson Balls.  “This is the most kids we’ve had compete in a few years and it was awesome to see so many great kids come out and show their skills.”

Hailee Myers and Sydney Saltzman finished first in Digital Cinema, earning their fourth state championship. Cooper Daniel earned his second title in Extemporaneous Speaking. Preston Roberts and Tygun Merritt placed first in Mobile Robotics, while Scarlet Weber achieved the same in Architectural Drafting. Carson Draney took the gold medal in Carpentry, which earned him a scholarship to attend the national competition this summer in Atlanta.

Silver medalists included Amelia Green in Architectural Drafting, Evie Keith in Baking, Josey O’Donnell in the Facilithon, Karson Kendall with Carpentry, Maya Mavy in Restaurant Service, and McKenna Klindt in Advertising Design.

Third Place Finishers included Claire Myers and Nola Simpson in Video Production, Cooper Daniel in Baking, Molly Roberts in Photography, and the SVHS Quiz Bowl Team of Chris Crowther, Cooper Daniel, Hailee Myers, Kassy Taylor, McKenna Klindt, Scarlet Weber and Sydney Saltzman.

“Over the last few months, they’ve put in time working on their skills, fine tuning their resumes, doing community service and just getting ready to showcase their career skills,” said Balls. “I’m super proud of them and all the hard work they put in.”
