Thayne welcomes new member to town council

Spencer Veigel took the oath of office Wednesday, April 15, becoming the newest member of the Thayne Town Council.

Veigel is a self employed contractor living in Thayne, recently opening his own Star Valley based business. He  fills an open seat on the council.

Veigel joined the town’s governing body as it approved conveyance of the property for the Star Valley Health Thayne Office on Petersen Parkway. Following a public hearing at the April 15 council meeting, the town completed the transfer of the property to the North Lincoln County Hospital District.

The conveyance was based on the terms of a 2020 lease agreement with the hospital. Star Valley Health Chief Operating Office Mike Hunsaker appeared before the council to coordinate the agreement.

The conveyance meets statutorily required actions and a formal closing and transfer of deeds will be scheduled.

Thayne business

In preparation for finalizing a new fiscal budget for the community, the budget was approved on second reading with approval Ordinance No. 413. As part of the second reading, the  town’s water fund, sewer fund,  levy and travel/tourism budget was also approved through second reading ordinances.

A Thayne Town CD with a balance of $1,629,114.98 will be renewed with placement of the CD to approved through a later vote.

Lincoln County Commission Chief of Staff Stephen Allen offered an overview report on the county’s work.

As part of the report, Allen acknowledged the proposal to form an EMS District will come before the commission for approval in the coming month. Mayor Simpson advised the town would not be supporting the proposal for the district.

Recreation

Councilman Joe Heward reported strong support for the community’s recreation programs including the adult volleyball.

He noted softball and baseball are open for registration and new lighting will be ready for the pickle ball courts, located on the community tennis courts.

Fire Dept. 

Planning for the Independence Day holiday, the Thayne Fire Department will receive assistance from the council for expenses with activities.

Town Cleanup

The Thayne Town BBQ and Clean up will be held at 6 pm. May 12.
