SVI Radio Interview: Town of Alpine Mayor Eric Green
Mayor Eric Green with the Town of Alpine called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Wednesday, June 3 for his monthly report.
(0:00) Weekday wake up on SVI Radio at 835 this morning, (0:03) heading into this hour’s guest interview segment (0:06) to the monthly report from the town of Alpine (0:08) with Mayor Eric Green, (0:10) joining me live over the phone this morning. (0:12) Mayor Green, beautiful day in Alpine today, (0:14) weather-wise, looks like. (0:16) Yes, it is.
(0:17) Thanks for having me, Duke. (0:18) How are you doing? (0:19) Fantastic, thank you. (0:21) Appreciate your time, as always.
(0:23) I guess we’ll start again with last night’s (0:24) town council meeting for Alpine (0:26) and annexation discussions continue. (0:29) Yeah, this is something that’s been in the works (0:32) for quite some time. (0:35) The previous administration had put an agreement together (0:39) with a local developer (0:41) and we didn’t approve an annexation last night.
(0:45) It may have been kind of mislabeled a little bit. (0:47) It was more like a developer agreement, (0:49) but there was credits for infrastructure that we received (0:53) that we’ve given this developer (0:54) and we just kind of cleaned everything up last night. (0:58) It was a long process to get it to this point, (1:01) but town council voted overwhelmingly (1:04) to approve this new agreement.
(1:09) So yeah, I’m happy that we got it over the finish line. (1:13) Okay, so if not annexation right now, (1:15) do you think that’s a possibility in the future (1:17) or do you feel like this is a conclusion for the whole thing? (1:21) No, I think they’ll probably petition (1:23) to be in the town of Alpine in the near future. (1:28) The only way they can utilize those credits (1:31) is if they’re in the town of Alpine.
(1:34) So it makes a lot of sense for them to petition. (1:36) So I anticipate them coming in, (1:39) if not in the next couple of weeks, (1:41) probably in the next month or so. (1:43) Alpine Mayor Eric Green this morning (1:45) on the weekday wake up.
(1:46) Anything else from last night’s town council meeting (1:48) you would like to bring up today? (1:52) You know, we did have another petition, (1:55) a much smaller petition that was on the docket last night. (1:59) And there was a request for building permit extension (2:03) that we did not grant, (2:05) but all in all it was pretty normal meeting. (2:10) The land use development code keeps coming up.
(2:13) We’re trying to get a new consultant hired for that. (2:17) And, you know, as you know, (2:20) we’re about ready to wrap up master plan (2:23) and the master plan is kind of the first step. (2:27) The land use development code update (2:29) would be the document that really (2:32) puts the master plan in motion.
(2:35) So it’s really a very important document to get updated. (2:42) And I think we’re, (2:44) town council is just waiting to see where we stand (2:46) on the current year’s budget and next year’s budget. (2:50) If we have a surplus, (2:51) then I think that’s something that we will try to get (2:55) consultant hired for sure.
(2:57) Gotcha. I was actually going to bring up the master plan. (3:00) The town hosted an open house regarding that recently.
(3:05) Give us an update on what was discussed on that open house. (3:07) What kind of feedback you’ve had from the community (3:09) and what may be the process moving forward? (3:13) Well, the open house that we recently had, (3:15) I think was the safe streets for all grant that we have. (3:19) We have a consultant for that as well, (3:21) which is, you know, (3:23) we got a pretty sizable grant from the federal government (3:26) to improve safety in the town of Alpine (3:31) and they’re going to do a demonstration project (3:35) probably this fall.
(3:38) They won’t be able to get it done this summer, (3:41) but I think the crosswalks in Alpine need to be looked at. (3:46) So they’re going to suggest some changes (3:48) how we can make it safer for people to do that. (3:51) But that’s a great opportunity for people to weigh in (3:56) on what they think would improve safety (3:59) for drivers and pedestrians in the town of Alpine.
(4:02) Regarding the master plan, (4:04) we’ve got our draft plan out on the town of Alpine website (4:10) and the master plan website. (4:12) And so if anyone would like to read the draft plan, (4:16) just you can find that on our master plan website. (4:21) That is what for right now until we get public feedback, (4:25) that’s pretty much what we’re going to present (4:28) to the town council in Alpine.
(4:32) So if people have feedback for the master plan, (4:35) now’s the time to go take a look at it (4:37) and get that submitted. (4:39) Town of Alpine, Mayor Eric Green this morning (4:41) and the week at wake up. (4:42) Mayor, just a few things coming up, (4:43) maybe for people to be aware of as well.
(4:46) I know YDOT’s been working closely with the town (4:47) on some bridge maintenance on the bridge (4:51) over the Snake River on highway 89 (4:52) and that begins tomorrow, right? (4:55) That’s right. (4:56) And I think it’s real important for people to know that. (4:59) I don’t think it’ll affect the commute too much, (5:01) but you never know.
(5:02) I don’t know if they’re going down to one lane (5:05) or if they’re going to be able to keep traffic flowing (5:09) better with two lanes. (5:10) But yeah, thanks for bringing that up. (5:11) I think people, they should definitely know.
(5:14) I know there’s bridge work going on in Jackson (5:16) and I don’t think that we will be holding up traffic (5:20) as much as they are up in Jackson, but time will tell. (5:24) So tomorrow they’ll start that project for sure. (5:29) Mayor, anything else you’d like to mention (5:31) while we have you on the air today? (5:33) I just wanted to make sure that we talk about it (5:37) every time I’m on, but it’s getting closer and closer, (5:39) but we have a lot planned for the 250th celebration (5:43) in Alpine.
(5:44) And one of the biggest things is the car show. (5:48) As many of your listeners know, (5:50) we were able to get Richard Petty to be our grand marshal. (5:54) And this is really an awesome event.
(5:58) The car show, Richard Petty is literally gonna pick the car (6:01) that he’s gonna ride in the parade (6:04) out of the submissions at the car show. (6:07) So if anyone has a cool old car (6:09) or a really cool new car, whatever, (6:13) you can go to the town of Alpine website, (6:15) sign up for the car show. (6:17) And we also have a gala on Friday night, July 3rd, (6:23) that Richard Petty is gonna be involved in (6:26) and there’s gonna be a fundraiser (6:28) and a lot of the proceeds go to his foundation, (6:32) which is called Victory Junction.
(6:34) So if you want any information, (6:36) go to the town of Alpine website (6:38) and get your submissions in, (6:40) get those old cars out of the garage. (6:43) And if you think it’s worthy, let’s get it in there (6:47) and see if you can get Richard Petty (6:49) to ride in your car during the parade. (6:51) There’s gonna be other dignitaries that come (6:54) and they’ll be looking to ride in the parade as well.
(6:56) Like, you know, there’s of course with election season, (6:59) there’s candidates that are gonna be in the parade. (7:03) So there’s other opportunities besides Richard Petty, (7:05) but he would, the King is gonna be the main prize (7:09) for the car show for sure. (7:11) Love it.
(7:11) Gonna be a great event. (7:13) You mentioned it’s coming right up. (7:14) We’re a month away.
(7:15) So July 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the town of Alpine (7:18) for America 250. (7:20) Absolutely. (7:21) And oh, the King, the King gonna be right there.
(7:24) Perfect. (7:25) Yeah, you gotta make it up here, Duke. (7:28) Heck yeah, absolutely.
(7:30) Okay. (7:31) That’s the town of Alpine, Mayor Eric Green (7:33) this morning on SVI Radio. (7:35) Mayor, as always, thank you for your time.
(7:36) Anything we missed you wanna mention today? (7:38) No, thanks for having me on. (7:40) Appreciate you. (7:40) It’s all part of the weekday wake up this morning (7:42) on the SVI Radio.
