Former Star Valley High School standout, Peter Visser, is headed back to the NCAA National Championship representing Weber State University. Visser, now a senior for the Wildcats, ran a time of 8:37.57 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA West Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas this past weekend, placing second in his heat and punching his ticket back to the nationals. Visser also qualified for the nationals as a junior for the Wildcats.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships take place June 10-13 at the University of Oregon, the same venue where Visser finished 17th a year ago, narrowly missing out on All-American status.

Visser is wrapping up a stellar career in Ogden as he ran in the NCAA Cross-Country Championships in the fall of 2025 where he placed 35th and earned All-America honors. His time was the fastest 10K in school history. He also earned All-Region and All-Conference accolades as well as being named the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete.

During the Indoor Track season, he broke the four-minute mile with a time of 3:59.83, the first Wyoming-born runner to do so. He also set a WSU record in the 5,000 meter and won the Big Sky Indoor Championships in the 3,000 meter.

Visser won multiple Gatorade cross-country and track athlete of the year awards for the state of Wyoming and won three straight individual cross-country championships as well.
