Groundwork has started on the new Silver Brooke Estates area of Afton.

With a bond in place the new housing subdivision will be built in phases next to Star Valley High School and Middle School.

“They’re getting some infrastructure into those lots to the south,” said Afton Town Administrator Violet Sanderson.  “I think for the most part, public will be seeing the contractors working on placement of roadways and some of the ditch work being done.”

She continued “There’s quite a few phases that were master planned with the Silver Brooke addition on the north side of Rulon Gardner Avenue. Phase one and two will be single family homes with a few duplex slots.”

Additional work in the future on the east side of the project will include single and multi-family homes.

Commercial lots will remain on the south side of Rulon Gardner Ave.  The area will also include a commercial permit for a Peak Fitness business.

Silver Brooke has gone through an extensive planning stage with the town.

“This is a major subdivision. And obviously there was a lot of public comment and concern, [asking if we have] taken stock of capacity, both in water, sewer, roadway, vehicle circulation planning, and all of that,” recalled Sanderson. “That’s something that we took a good, hard look at, both in their capacity figures for water, capacity for sewer with our expansion project and vehicle circulation at total build-out because that’s kind of the way that we look at it.”

Noting the transportation plans, she noted, “there is going to be a point of ingress  and egress to the main points of the subdivision on the north side of Rulon Gardner Ave. and one point of ingress and egress out to the west side onto Warrior Way.”

She added, “From there, most people are either going to access Highway 89 to get around town from Kennington Burton, Rulon Gardner Avenue, or Swift Creek  Lane. “We took all of that into consideration.”

Changes are planned for Rulon Gardner Ave. to accommodate traffic at the intersection at U.S. 89.

Future plans will include addressing traffic at Swift Creek Lane and Kennington Burton Rd.
