Fundraisers have been organized to help a Star Valley man who recently suffered a stroke related to the return of Melanoma. Bo Hokanson of Afton suffered a stroke in recent months. After lifting his skull flap to relieve pressure, doctors found a melanoma tumor. Hokanson has been in remission after Melanoma cancer was treated in his leg about five years ago.
Since then, three new tumors have grown in Hokanson’s brain, causing multiple seizures and a blood clot in his lung. Additionally, additional cancer has since been found in his abdomen.
“He has been a travel nurse and his last assignment was in Olympia, Washington,” explains Charlotte Parsons in a Facebook fundraiser titled Team Bo Hokanson. “He had only been there for a month when he had the stroke. He hasn’t worked since. They moved back here to be close to family because he needs constant care. He’s being treated at Huntsman.”
Parsons and other community members have organized Team Bo Hokanson to help Bo and his wife Abbie with the financial pressures that inevitably come from these situations, caused by a combination of not being able to work and mounting medical bills. The community can help by joining the Facebook auction and donating and/or bid on items. Bidding will close on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m.
In addition, a donation account has been created at the Bank of Star Valley. Direct donations can also be made via Venmo to @abibindi with “Team Bo” in the note.
“Let’s help lift Bo and Abbie and help them at this time,” concludes Parsons.
