The search continues for a Star Valley Ranch man who went missing after a flash flood washed through the Grand Canyon area on September 3. Timothy Smith, 53, was with two friends, John Giusti 46 and Brent Rosenkranz, 42 when a downpour caused a wall of water to flow through the area near Bright Angel Campground where they had been staying.

According to information provided by the Grand Canyon National Park, a total of 82 people were rescued, many by helicopter, while others were able to hike to safety. Unfortunately, Fiusti and Rosenkranz were unable to survive the flood and their bodies were recovered.

Search crews and volunteers continue to scour the area for signs of Smith who still has not been located.

Carrie Smith, Timothy’s wife, has kept family and friends updated via Facebook. In a recent comment on Tuesday, September 8, she said:

“The search and rescue teams are working long, hard, hot days to look for him. I cannot thank them enough for all they are doing each day. Their efforts and compassion for our family is very appreciated. Thank you to everyone who has reached out in some way (prayer, messages, food, money) and continues to reach out to us.”

These last nine days have been the hardest days that my family has endured.  Any of us will tell you that we have made it through them so far, and we will continue to get through each day with God’s help.  God is holding us up, giving us strength, giving us hope, giving us peace and loving us well.”
