• Festivities planned September 28 – October 3
Star Valley High School is set to celebrate the school’s traditional Homecoming Week September 18-October 3. Activities include all the old favorites and a few new adventures. Alumni are invited to attend Wednesday and Thursday evening activities as well as the always anticipated varsity football game against SVHS rivals, the Cody Broncs, with kickoff at 5 p.m. Friday on Braves Field.
“Homecoming week is always such an important week for our student body and the greater Star Valley community,” said SVHS Activities Director, Kyle McClain, in an email to SVI Media. “Star Valley High School is the hub of the community, and this week always brings our community a little bit closer together.”
On Monday, September 28, students are encouraged to dress as Adam Sandler and will enjoy an assembly with Class Battles and celebration with the Spirit Spear. Tuesday brings a dress-up theme of “Anything but a backpack” and offers float decorating at the fairgrounds as well as JV and sophomore football at Rock Springs and Pinedale, respectively and three volleyball games at Evanston.
Wednesday, September 30, hallway decorations will be judged, and students will enjoy the traditional Beefcake Volleyball assembly. Mr. SVHS will be crowned in the auditorium that evening with the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday’s dress-up theme is Jersey Day.
The Homecoming Royalty will be announced at the assembly on Thursday, October 1, and students will enjoy a Game Show and Class Battle. This year’s Homecoming Parade will begin at 6:30 that evening, followed by the Powder Puff Game. SVHS Cross Country will offer halftime entertainment with a timed half-mile, and students will burn the SV directly following the Powder Puff games. White Lies T-shirts is the dress-up theme for Thursday.
With students sporting school spirit colors for the Friday dress-up, Braves Rally for a Clean Valley is Friday’s activity during school hours. This third annual community clean-up busses students to various locations throughout Star Valley, giving them the opportunity to beautify their homes and neighborhoods. Students will return to the school for the pep assembly and freshmen football game at 2 p.m. The Braves will meet the Cody Broncs on Braves Field for the varsity Homecoming football game with kickoff at 5 p.m.
The Braves on Fire Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Friday evening, October 2, from 9-11 p.m. in the South Exhibit Hall of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Sip and Co. is scheduled to be there offering dirty sodas, and the Snappy Camper will offer photo opportunities. Presale tickets are available from any Brave Cadette.
Saturday’s activities include freshman, JV and Varsity volleyball games against Green River beginning at 10 a.m.
McClain knows that Homecoming Week is a cherished time for students and community alike. “From our traditions assembly, where our student body gets to hear [from past alumni about] what makes SVHS so special, to football and volleyball games, to the city parade, to Braves Rally for a Clean Valley, to the powder puff game, the week is jam packed with many great activities where we get to see the best of our students and our community.”
