Knowledge is the Key

Dear Editor,

I applaud Amber Hyde’s effort to educate folks on public meetings and information.

I agree that having more information on the decisions our county officials are making will help us to be better informed to give input to our elected officials.

On major issues facing the county, there will always be plenty of material that the commissioners will be reviewing and discussing way ahead of the decisions / votes made in public meetings.

Having this information ahead of time for the public to digest will be of great value in having the citizens truly better informed on what issues the county is facing. There are ways that the county can accommodate the request on having public information available.

If you missed Amber’s letter in the Star Valley Independent, go back to last week’s edition. She really outlined things very well.

If the County Commissioners do make more information available, then it is imperative that citizens take advantage of the opportunity to learn really what is going on. It doesn’t do much good if only just a handful of people take the time to learn more about a project and express their opinion either for or against. The true value of government by the people is for a great majority to know what is going on and then express their thoughts. The commissioners can then better gauge the voice of the people and what is desired by them.

Granted it will take time and effort to learn more about the issues facing our county, city and state, but it will be well worth the effort. The POWER of the people in making sure our elected officials are making good choices to protect, preserve, and safeguard our God given rights is paramount in keeping a united effort to follow our Constitution.

Respectfully,

T. Deb Wolfley
