Jennifer Scherbel, who has served on the board of the LCSD2 Education Foundation since 2019, has assumed the role of Board Chair. Scherbel brings years of experience and leadership to the position and plans to not only continue the current work of the foundation, but to expand the scope of the foundation’s work to include new and innovative ways to support students and staff at Lincoln County School District #2.

Tim Hale, who is the retiring chairman, announced the change in an interview on the SVI Radio Network Monday. Pleased with the change, Hale stated that he will remain with the board, but is “excited to pass the baton on to Jen. She’s been a wonderful, very involved member of our board. It really is important to step aside after some time to bring in fresh perspectives and ideas.”
Scherbel initially joined the board with an expectation to facilitate the Community Scholarship Program offered through the foundation. She has been pleasantly surprised by the number of other projects that the foundation sponsors and offers to the school district. “I want to give back to the community,” said Scherbel. “I was a scholarship recipient when I was a high school student and I really felt an effect from that. It helped me get through college.”
Serving on the board, Scherbel has enjoyed being part of the growth and good that the foundation offers to students. “Between construction projects and working on accreditation of teachers and things like that, this has been something that I have really enjoyed working with.
I expect to see those projects continue and expand.” Scherbel is in the process of learning her responsibilities. Hale stated that she will soon be “communicating her vision, in collaboration with the board, to set the course for the next term. Jen is wonderful with that. She is always bringing new, productive and really valuable ideas to the board.” Her approach is one of curiosity and exploration. “That’s really helpful and can really help set the course for the future of the foundation.”
Scherbel believes that “it’s important to have a very diverse board” that includes “people with different types of experiences, people with kids in the district, those who have taught in the district.” She hopes to help students become successful as they leave the high school and continue their education or enter the workforce.
The Foundation welcomes new board members who are passionate about supporting education initiatives in the district. For more information, please visit www.lcsd2foundation.org.
